Pigeon (Columbidae)
鴿屬，是鳩鴿科的一屬，又稱鴿子；包括各種鴿子，其中有我們今天常見的鴿子，即原鴿。為人類所馴化的野鴿被稱為家鴿。鴿子是和平的象徵。
Pigeon, also known as dove, is a member of Columbidae family. There are many species of pigeons including rock pigeons (columba livia) which we see most of the time. Wild pigeons were tamed centuries ago. Nowadays, they are known as domestic pigeons and are considered a symbol of peace.
原鴿在鳥類中屬中等體型，通體石板灰色，頸部胸部的羽毛具有悅目的金屬光澤，常隨觀察角度的變化而顯由綠到藍而紫的顏色變化，翼上及尾端各自具一條黑色橫紋，尾部的黑色橫紋較寬，尾上覆羽白色。一般而言，結群活動和盤旋飛行是其行為特點。
Rock pigeon has a slaty-gray plumage, having bright-colored feathers on its neck and chest. The colors vary from green to blue, from blue to purple, depending on where you watch the bird. Black stripe appears on its both wings and tail, with a noticeable black stripe on its tail. The tail is covered with white feathers. Pigeons form groups, flying and soaring together.
分辨雌雄一般是辨別大小，雄鴿的肩膀寬，頭形圓大，腳也較長，脊椎也較長，相反的雌鴿都較短。此外，雄鴿的頸子粗短，頸羽富有金色光澤，叫聲也較強，步伐大，求偶時會一邊旋轉，或是一邊跳躍；雌鴿的頸子細，叫聲也較輕柔。
Size is the only decisive factor for people to distinguish a male pigeon from a female. The male has wider shoulder, round head, longer feet, and longer spine than the female. Moreover, the male has shorter neck, shining feathers on its neck, cries louder, and walks faster than the female. The male in courtship rotates its body and jumps at the same time. Usually, the female has a slim neck and cries softly.
鴿一般是雌雄雙棲，喜歡群飛。野鴿的食物主要是植物性食物，包括各種植物的果實和種子，如玉米、花生、芸豆、豌豆、高粱、甜瓜、蒲公英、大米等。
A male pigeon usually lives with a female. Pigeons always fly in groups. They feed on plant food including fruits and seeds, such as corns, peanuts, beans, peas, sorghum, melon, dandelion, and rice.
